Superbowl

It's Superbowl Sunday and all over the Arab world angry mobs are rioting.

(I had no idea they take their football so seriously here.) Of course, they're not torching embassies and overturning cars for something so petty as a sporting event. No, all this mayhem is because of a much more serious matter; a cartoon in a Danish newspaper. The raucous crowds are shouting to cut off the hands of the cartoonist. I believe other demands include the return of "The Far Side" and color comics on weekdays, not just Sunday. (I wonder how many times has W thought of severing Gary Trudeau's hands? (The Doonsbury writer, not the former Canadian prime meridian.))

Since I'm seven hours ahead I won't ruin the outcome of the game for my North American readers, but I will say this much; The New England Patriots don't win. I almost didn't stay up for it this year. That's a lie. Of course I would stay up for the Superbowl. I may not have a vested interest in either team this year, but it's still the Superbowl. People here think football is played with a round ball and that you're not allowed to touch it with your hands. Besides, I just had to see if there would be a wardrobe malfunction with Mick Jagger's oxygen mask. I'm rooting for which ever team has the ball. With all the interceptions, that means I can root for both teams on many of the plays. Admittedly, I am having a hard time rooting for a quarterback named "Roethlisberger".

Last week, Marcey and I celebrated the six month mark to our wedding on July 29. We're thinking of taking an early honeymoon to the Seychelles over Easter break. We probably won't have an opportunity for one this summer.

Our plan is to relocate to Chicago at the end of June and look for jobs.

So, we'll either would have just started new jobs (and new employers generally frown on taking the first two weeks off) or we'll be unemployed and trying to stretch our meager savings as far as possible. The only thing keeping us from finalizing this plan is a position at the Singapore American School. Marcey is in the running for a job there and they haven't filled it yet. As soon as we hear that they filled the position we can make plans for Chicago. Of course, there's a samll chance that they will offer the job to Marcey, but it's a long shot. There's no position for me and there's a big job fair next week in Boston where they will likely find a more suitable couple.

Well, the Steelers finally have "one for the Thumb". The first sixth seeded team to win the Superbowl. The streets here are quiet though. Usually at the end of a "football" game here the hooligans turn over cars and the police come in with tear gas. And that's just for a soccer game. You should see what they do after Garfield eats a whole lasagna in the funny pages.
